Goring C. of E. Primary School

Music Activities

Welcome to the Music section of our website.  At Goring Primary School we believe in giving our children opportunities to explore the joy of music through singing, performing, creating and listening.

Whole School Music Activities: As well as singing a hymn at our daily collective worship, we also have a weekly ‘singing assembly’ when we meet as a whole school to sing a wide variety of songs.  Our annual Nativity productions also give a great opportunity for the children to sing and perform.  We have strong links with St Thomas’ Church and we take part in services there in which music plays a major role.  The whole school leads services at Harvest and Easter at St Thomas’ and Year 6 hold their carol service and leavers’ service there.

School Choir:  Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 are invited to join our school choir.  All are welcome.  There is no audition.  We meet at 9am every Friday morning.  We have regular performances throughout the year – at our Christmas concert, school fete and end-of-year concert.  Other performances include singing at the GAP Festival, St Thomas’ Christingle service, carol singing at the Goring late-night shopping evening and carol singing at the local care homes.

Learning a Musical Instrument:  Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 have the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments.  We currently offer violin and cello taught by Oxfordshire Music Service and flute, clarinet, saxophone, cornet and trumpet taught by Music for Schools Foundation.  Please clicks on the link below for further information.

School Orchestra:  All children who play an instrument (whether within school or outside) can join our school orchestra.  We meet before school on a Friday in November and December (working towards a performance at our Christmas concert) and in May and June (working towards a performance at our school fete and end-of-year concert).

Creating:  In class music lessons, children have the opportunity to create their own music compositions.  This term, Greenfinch class have worked on a composition called ‘The Seasons’.

Listening:  As a whole school, we listen to a wide range of music throughout the year, including western classical music, popular music and traditional music from around the world.  Some of music from our listening programme is shown below:
