Week Commencing – 11th November

This week:

  • In Maths, we have continued with statistics by learning how to interpret line graphs.
  • In English, we have been editing and improving our independent non-chronological reports.
  • In R.E we have begun our new unit of “Does God communicate with humans?”.

Also if your child does not have a good knowledge of their times tables up to 12 please could they practise them as it will support them in their maths work.

Week Commencing – 4th November

This week:

  • In Maths, we have begun our new unit of Statistics by looking at line graphs.
  • In English, we been using research from our homework to plan and write an independent non-chronological report.
  • In Art, we have made some beautiful pictures of poppies for Remembrance Day.

Also if your child does not have a good knowledge of their times tables up to 12 please could they practise them as it will support them in their maths work.

Week Commencing – 21st October

This week:

  • In Maths, we have been working out multi-step step problems using addition and subtraction.
  • In English, we have planned and written a non-chronological report based on the life of Winston Churchill.
  • In R.E, we have been looking at the Five Pillars of Islam and how they help Muslims to lead good lives.

Also if your child does not have a good knowledge of their times tables up to 12 please could they practise them as it will support them in their maths work.

Week Commencing – 14th October

This week:

  •  In Maths, we have been using the column method to subtract numbers with 5 digits.
  • In English, we have been learning about the features of non-chronological reports and have begun researching the life of Winston Churchill, so that we can write a non-chronological report on him.
  • In Computing, we have been working on Hour of Code.

Also if your child does not have a good knowledge of their times tables up to 12, please could they practise them as it will support them in their maths work.

Week Commencing – 7th Oct

This week:

  • In Maths, we have been using column addition to add numbers with 5 digits.
  • In English, we have been writing our own stories based on Carrie’s War.
  • In Topic, we have designed PowerPoint presentations based on our research of evacuees during World War II.

Also if your child does not have a good knowledge of their times tables up to 12 please could they practise them as it will support them in their maths work.

Week Commencing – 30th Sept

This week:

  • In Maths, we have begun our new unit of Addition and Subtraction.
  • In English, we have been planning paragraphs based on our class book Carrie’s War.
  • In Science, we have been learning how the rotation of the Earth causes shadows to change length and direction, throughout the day.

Also if your child does not have a good knowledge of their times tables up to 12 please could they practise them as it will support them in their maths work.

Week Commencing - 23rd Sept

This week:

  • In Maths, we have been continuing with Place Value and have been comparing numbers up to 1,000,000.
  • In English, we have been looking at different word classes in order to understand how sentences can be formed.
  • In Art, we have been making clay models based on Henry Moore sculptures depicting people in the air raid shelters during WWII.

Also if your child does not have a good knowledge of their times tables up to 12 please could they practise them as it will support them in their maths work.

Week Commencing – 16th Sept

This week:

  • In Maths, we have been continuing with Place Value and have been comparing numbers as well as rounding to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 and 100,000.
  • In English, we have been working on our comprehension skills by analysing parts of the text from Carrie’s war.
  • We have been on a trip to Bradfield College to their science department, where we took part in various science investigations.

Week Commencing – 9th Sept

This week:

  • In Maths, we have been looking at Roman Numerals and rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000.
  • In English, we planned and wrote a letter as if we were an evacuee in World War II.
  • We have produced a copy of Picasso’s Guernica by dividing the painting into 30 squares. Each child has painted their own square to make up a giant version of the painting.

Week Commencing – 3rd Sept

This week:

  • In Maths, we will be beginning our unit of Place Value, looking at numbers to 10,000.
  • In English, we have started reading our text, Carrie’s War by Nina Bawden. We have been looking at making predictions and have started thinking about characters and their feelings and emotions in preparation for our written work.
  • In Topic we have begun our unit of Keep Calm and Carry On. We began with a general introduction of the Blitz, evacuees and rationing.
