Week Commencing – 20th May

This week:

  • In Maths we have continued learning about decimals and percentages by adding and subtracting decimals.
  • In English, we have planned and written a shared poem based on the story of “Flood” by Alvaro F.Villa. We have also looked at standard English verb inflections, homophones and direct speech.
  • For S.T.E.A.M week, we have joined forces with Year 4 and have made volcanoes, conducted a volcano experiment and have made a cloud in a jar.

Also if your child does not have a good knowledge of their times tables up to 12 please could they practise them as it will support them in their maths work.

Week Commencing – 13th May

This week:

  • In Maths we have continued learning about decimals and percentages by looking at understanding percentages and their equivalent decimals.
  • In English, we have started looking at narrative poems and their features. We have learnt some poems and have performed them.
  • In Topic we have continued with our research on volcanoes and have made powerpoint presentations of different natural disasters.
  • In Art, we have been preparing for Goring in Bloom, by making sunflowers using materials, beads and flower pots. We have woven the centres of the sunflowers and begun making the petals.

Also if your child does not have a good knowledge of their times tables up to 12 please could they practise them as it will support them in their maths work.

Week Commencing – 7th May

This week:

  • In Maths we have continued learning about decimals and percentages by looking at rounding and ordering decimals.
  • In English, we have written an independent version of the story Flood. We have looked at how to punctuate direct speech and how to make our sentences more interesting.
  • In Topic, we have studied volcanoes, looking at the different parts of a volcano and different volcanoes around the world.
  • In Art, we have been preparing for Goring in Bloom, by making sunflowers using materials, beads and flower pots.

Also if your child does not have a good knowledge of their times tables up to 12 please could they practise them as it will support them in their maths work.

Week Commencing – 29th April

This week:

  • In Maths we have continued learning about decimals and percentages by looking at tenths, hundredths and thousandths as decimals and fractions.
  • In English, we have written a shared story of our own version of Flood by Alvaro F. Villa. This week we will be looking at alternative versions and writing our own independent stories.
  • In R.E we have been looking at the question: Does prayer change things? We have started looking at the different types of prayers for Christians.
  • In P.E we have been practising our athletics skills, such as sprinting, long jump and throwing. Please ensure that your child has a P.E kit in school at all times.

Week Commencing – 23rd April

This week:

  • In Maths, we have started learning about decimals and fractions as decimals.
  • In English, we have started reading our new texts, The Flood by Alvaro F.Villa and Escape the Giant Wave by Peg Kehret.
  • In Topic, we have begun learning about natural disasters.

Our next science topic is Evolution and Inheritance. For our class display we would like to have a photo of each pupil, together with a photo of a parent and/or grandparent at the same age, in order to show possible similarities. Copies of the photos will be adequate and we can do this at school, if required. Thank you very much for your help in this matter.

Week Commencing - 18th March

This week:

  • In Maths we have been adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators.
  • In English we have written a shared compare and contrast essay, which compares Chapter 1 of The Demon Headmaster by Gillian Cross with the film version.
  • We have been continuing our science unit of electricity and have been working on our passing skills in football during P.E. We have been working on Scratch programming in Computing.

Week Commencing - 11th March

This week:

  • In Maths we have continued with fractions by looking at comparing fractions and ordering them.
  • In English we have started our new unit of comparing and contrasting.
  • We have been looking at rivers and settlements in topic and we have been examining the story of Lent in R.E.

Week Commencing – 4th March

This week:

  • In Maths we have continued with fractions by looking at mixed numbers and improper fractions.
  • In English we have finished writing our own play scripts based on our class text of Anglo-Saxon Boy by Tony Bradman.
  • We have had an exciting week cycling and completing our Bikeability course this week.

Week Commencing – 25th February

This week:

  • In Maths we have been working on our new unit of fractions, starting with equivalent fractions.
  • In English we have looking at the features of play scripts by performing a short version of Beowulf. We have moved on to write our own play scripts based on our class text of 'Anglo-Saxon Boy' by Tony Bradman.
  • We have started our new topic of 'Where the Land meets the Sea', by looking at where all the major rivers in the world are located. We have started football and basketball sessions in P.E.

Week Commencing – 11th February

This week:

  • In Maths we have been working on short division, dividing four digits by 1. We have started to look at long division.
  • In English we have been writing a biography of the Anglo-Saxon person that was researched for homework.
  • In Topic, we have been researching how the Anglo-Saxon period ended and the Norman period began.

Week Commencing – 4th February

This week:

  • In Maths we have been continuing with long multiplication, by expanding this to multiplying 4 digits by 2 digits.
  • In English we have been writing a shared biography of Alfred the Great, combining literacy skills with our Anglo-Saxon topic.
  • In RE we have been exploring the Sikh Gurdwaras and how the Sikh community worship.

Week Commencing – 21st January

This week:

  • In Maths we have been finishing area and perimeter and we have started learning our new unit of multiplication and division.
  • In English we have been learning about the differences between autobiographies and biographies.
  • In Art we have made Anglo Saxon pots out of clay, which we will be painting in authentic colours.

Week Commencing – 14th January

This week:

  • In Maths we have been learning to measure area and perimeter.
  • In English we have been planning and writing our own stories based on an advert.
  • In RE we have been learning about communities and places which are special in communities.

Week Commencing – 7th January

This week:

  • In Maths we have finished multiplication and division and moved on to a unit about area and perimeter.
  • In English we have been creating characters to write a story with.
  • In Topic we have begun learning about our new topic – Anglo Saxons “Invaders and Settlers”.
